Man dies, woman seriously injured, in Peterborough house fire
A man died and a woman was seriously injured in a house blaze in Peterborough early today.
The condition of the woman is said to be “life-threatening”.

Fire crews from Stanground, Dogsthorpe, and Thorney were joined by the Peterborough Volunteer Fire brigade at the scene.

The blaze broke out at a house in the Crabtree area of the city with Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue receiving their first alert at 5.47am.

Emergency services revealed that the man was declared dead at the scene and the woman was taken to Peterborough City Hospital.
Police are so far treating the fire as unexplained, and a spokesperson said they were “keeping an open mind around the cause”.

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Fire Rescue said: “Firefighters rescued two people from the property and performed CPR alongside the ambulance service.
“Sadly, one man was declared dead at the scene and a woman has been taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition.”

Supt Neil Billany, from Cambridgeshire Police, said: “We are investigating this fire alongside the fire service to try to understand the cause of this tragic incident.
“We understand it may be concerning for local residents, but we are treating this as an isolated incident and there are extra police officers in the area today.”
