A prolific burglar who broke into a Cambridge home where three young children and a man were sleeping has been jailed.

Mark Turner, 40, of Chesterton Road, walked into the home in Callander Close at around 3am on 10 June and stole a 55” TV and two X-Box controllers.

The occupant was woken a few hours later by his children asking where the TV had gone.

Turner was spotted on nearby CCTV cameras which showed him walk towards the address wearing gloves and leave six minutes later carrying a television.

He was identified by police by a tattoo on his arm seen on the CCTV.

At Cambridge Crown Court on Thursday (13 July), Turner was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to burglary and possession of class A drugs.

Detective Constable Sarah Longbottom, from the Southern Acquisitive Crime Team, said: “Turner is a prolific criminal with a wealth of convictions including 28 for burglary between 1998 and June this year.

“This extensive sentence will mean Cambridge and the surrounding villages are safer with him behind bars.”
