Tory MP Paul Bristow has urged Peterborough City Council not to contemplate the “expensive gimmick” of a 4-day week.
“Labour Bassetlaw council want to go to a 4-day week,” he said.
“Lib Dem South Cambridgeshire Council have gone to a 4-day week.
“I feel for residents who live with a part time council.”
Mr Bristow, the MP for Peterborough, believes councils have a “responsibility to ensure taxpayer’s money is spent in a responsible and productive way.
“Removing 20 per cent of capacity every week is clearly not a way to achieve this.”
He added: “I am looking forward to Conservative Peterborough City Council confirming they will not contemplate this expensive gimmick!”
Mr Bristow released a copy of a letter to Matt Gladstone, chief executive of Peterborough City Council, outlining his opposition to a 4-day week.
“I look forward to you confirming that Peterborough City Council will not be trialling a 4-day week,” he writes.
