A council in London is solving its housing crisis by sending families miles away – including to Huntingdonshire!

An investigation by the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDR) has revealed that Lewisham Council has sent at least one family to live in Huntingdonshire.

Which is 85 miles away from their former home in South London.

The LDR report shows Bedford and Stevenage have also been targeted by Lewisham Council to house those on their housing list.

The figures were revealed in a Freedom of Information request to Lewisham Council by the LDR.

In one instance the LDR found a family had been moved to Harlow by the council over four years ago. And they are still there.

Nearly 30 homeless families have been dispersed by Lewisham Council to temporary housing outside of the capital.

The LDR found that in general most homeless families in London were sent to boroughs nearer to London such as Bromley, Bexley, and Croydon.
