Cambridgeshire police issue statement on recovery of body from Nene

A man’s body was pulled from the River Nene in Peterborough yesterday. Cambridgeshire police said they received a call at around noon.

A police spokesperson said: “We received a call at about 12pm today (20 December) with reports of a body in the River Nene, near Town Bridge, Peterborough.

At this time the cause of death is not known.

“The death is being treated as unexplained at this time,” said the police spokesperson.

“Investigations continue.”

UPDATE: Police believe the body may be that of a missing 71-year-old man from Peterborough
“The death is currently being treated as unexplained and formal identification has not yet taken place,” said a spokesperson
