A stark warning was issued last night that Fenland BusFest could be cancelled this year – and may never return. Organisers are Eastern Bus Enthusiasts (EBE) and in a social media post they said that “as it stands we do not have enough entries for the event to go ahead”.
Whittlesey traditionally hosts the event, and this would have been its 12th annual turn out of vintage buses.
“Last chance to enter a vehicle for Fenland BusFest,” it advised its members and supporters last night.
“If you wish to attend with a vehicle please enter by 19th April to boost numbers and give us the support we need to go ahead.
“Be warned, if the event is cancelled due to lack of support it will NOT return!.”
EBE says at the moment they have 15 entries but need 30 minimum “to make it worthwhile paying the costs of hosting”.
For now, Fenland BusFest 2024 remains scheduled for May 19.
“If you haven’t entered a bus or coach already, please get in touch as we’d love to welcome you to the biggest bus & coach event in the area,” added their spokesperson.
The group was formed in 2011 with the aim of saving historic buses and coaches for preservation; many of these have Cambridgeshire connections.
One issue, a member pointed out, is that “unfortunately there are several major events on that weekend in the bus preservation world, diluting vehicles and people”.
