A quintessentially English tea room pub nestled in the middle of a Fenland village is to close this weekend. The shock closure of Dotties Tea Room – housed in part of the Chequers public house at Friday Bridge near Wisbech – was announced today by owners Dotty and Russell Blakey.

“It is with the greatest of sadness that we will be closing our beautiful Dotties tea room for reasons totally behind our control,” they posted to their Facebook page.

“We have loved being part of such a lovely village and getting to know all the locals and the kind people that travelled for miles to see us.

“We would like to thank all our amazing staff and are so sad to have to let you all go but you have all been the best employees and we know you will go on to do great things.”

They added: “We would like to thank all our local suppliers for all of your pretty and tasty home-made cakes that we have all loved so much and produce that’s gone into all the items on our menu.

“Lastly me and Russ would like to thank our wonderful customers for all your support over the last 18 months.

“Our last opening day will be Saturday and if you have any vouchers that you cannot use before this date please PM us and myself and Russ will honour them.”

The tea room has enjoyed phenomenal public support since opening and nearly 300 people have already expressed their surprise, and disappointment, on the Facebook page.
