Police praised a member of the public who flagged down a police car to report a suspected drink driver.
“Your hunch was right,” said a police statement.
“The driver was in fact more than twice the legal limit – he blew 81, the limit is 35.”
Policing Peterborough said: “We want to say a big thank you to the person who flagged us down in Werrington last night to report a suspected drink driver.”
The man, who is in his 40s, has been charged and bailed to appear in court next month.
The police statement added that driving with this level of alcohol “is not illegal, but it is also extremely dangerous.
“And it puts other road users and pedestrians’ lives in danger, so thank you for making us aware”.
