Stephen Perse Cambridge (a family of schools in Cambridge, Madingley and Saffron Walden) will be cheering on former teaching assistant Bethany Shriever, world champion BMX racer, and alumna Imogen Grant, lightweight world champion rower, as they both go for gold at this year’s Olympic games in Paris.

Imogen, who will be competing alongside her partner Emily Craig in the lightweight double sculls, is striving to reach the podium after finishing fourth at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The pair will be going into the games with both the European and world championship titles under their belt.

Imogen studied at Stephen Perse Cambridge, where her ambition to study medicine at university was supported by her teachers, ultimately securing her an offer to study at Cambridge University.

While studying at Cambridge, Imogen took up rowing as a hobby, before quickly changing course to pursue it as a career in competitive sport, all while balancing her degree studies.

Also competing in the Olympics is BMX racer Bethany, who was previously a teaching assistant at Dame Bradbury’s Junior School, part of the Stephen Perse Cambridge.

A valued former member of the Early Years teaching community at Stephen Perse, Bethany left her role in 2019 to commit to her Olympic training schedule. In the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Bethany won the Women’s BMX racing gold medal and will take to the track on August 1 and 2 to defend her title.

Richard Girvan, Principal at Stephen Perse Cambridge, commented: “We are wishing both Bethany and Imogen the best of luck in the Olympics, and we are incredibly proud to have supported them both during their time at Stephen Perse Cambridge.

“They are great role models who continue to inspire our students, serving as a reminder of the benefits of dedication and perseverance. I know the whole school community will be cheering them on, and we hope they receive their well-deserved gold medals.”
