A runner struck by a car in Stretham on Saturday has died in hospital; he has been named as 52-year-old Stephen Chamberlain, a former executive of Cambridge software firm Autonomy.

Mr Chamberlain, of Station Road, Longstanton, had only recently been acquitted in a US fraud trial that involved the £8bn sale of the firm. He was the former vice-president of finance at Autonomy.

His family, paying tribute to him, said: “Steve was a much-loved husband, father, son, brother, and friend.

“He was an amazing individual whose only goal in life was to help others in any way possible.

“He made a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

“He will be deeply missed but forever in the hearts of his loved ones.”

By an astonishing twist of fate, his co-defendant in the American trial was tycoon Mike Lynch, who is missing in Italy after a luxury yacht sank during a storm.
