“We had 30 years of the deepest love together and the happiest marriage of 27 years; a true partnership”. With those poignant words Sarah Istead spoke of her late husband who was killed in June when his Kawasaki motorcycle was involved in a crash with a Ford Focus, and then a Mazda C-X 3, on the A1198, Papworth Everard bypass, Cambridgeshire.
Sarah issued the statement through Cambridgeshire Police.
She described Paul, 53, as a “loving husband, father of four and grandfather of seven.
“He was a great friend and employee, sadly missed and loved by many, a quiet man, kind and would always help anyone in need.
“We had 30 years of the deepest love together and the happiest marriage of 27 years. A true partnership.
“Paul gave me the experience of being deeply understood, truly supported, and utterly loved with that time.
“My world from now, may change year to year, my life day to day but the love and the memory of him shall never pass away – and I shall carry that with me always.”
Paul lived with his wife at Victory Avenue, Peterborough.
He died at the scene of the Papworth Everard crash. Another motorcyclist travelling with him on a Yamaha bike was not injured.
The drivers of the Ford and the Mazda were not seriously injured and remained at the scene.
Dozens paid tribute online to Paul, one describing him as “a good school friend; we all grew up in Eastrea and had great times. My thoughts are with all his family”.
