A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Powerchair football in Cambridgeshire. The appeal has been organized by Cambridgeshire Football Association in collaboration with Cambridge United Foundation.
The fundraiser aims to raise £7,000 to acquire powerchairs and overcome venue and equipment costs, enabling wheelchair users and individuals with disabilities to enjoy regular football.
Powerchair football is an adaptable 4v4 format played indoors, primarily designed for players with conditions such as Cerebral Palsy or Muscular Dystrophy, but it is open to all wheelchair users.
The sport provides opportunities to compete in national and regional leagues under the Wheelchair Football Association and even progress through England’s talent pathways.
So far, £145 has been raised toward the target.

Organizers Sally Metcalfe or Ryan Kay say on their appeal page: “At Cambridgeshire Football Association, we are actively creating opportunities for Powerchair and wheelchair users in Cambridgeshire to enjoy regular football.
“We have joined together with Cambridge United Foundation and have the opportunity to acquire powerchairs, making this a reality.
“While venue and equipment costs present challenges, we are committed to ensuring that everyone has the chance to play and experience football at all levels.
“However, we do not have all the funding available for us to do this alone, which is why we need your help.”
The fund raisers add: “It doesn’t matter how big or how small your donation is, every amount raised will have a positive impact on Powerchair and Wheelchair players in Cambridgeshire.”
