A town councillor says reports of homophobic “hate speech” in St Neots market square today will be investigated.
Cllr Daniel Laycock, the councillor for Eynesbury ward and chair of the environment and emergency committee, said he was “deeply concerned” by the reports.
“Any form of discriminatory language towards the LGBT community is not welcome in our town,” he said.
“And I will work to ensure it is stamped out.”
Cllr Laycock said the issue had been raised by county councillor Stephen Ferguson, also chair of the county council.
“I have thanked Cllr Ferguson for bringing this to our attention and I will be raising it with the town council,” said Cllr Laycock.
“Cllr Ferguson heard a religious groups in St Neots market square this afternoon preaching homophobic nonsense.
“We are going to be looking into and finding out from whom it specifically came.
“I’ve asked Stephen to report it to the police.”
