Cambridgeshire shivers as temperatures drop
It was a stay-at-home morning for most of Cambridgeshire today as temperatures plummeted overnight and even at 10am it was still minus 5 degrees in some places.
In Ely, the crisp December morning failed to deter some, however, and dogs were walked, and people went about their normal business.

The Met Office predicted “cold with some lingering freezing fog patches” but as on every day, the ‘ship of the Fens’ Ely Cathedral revealed its own glory in its own spectacular fashion.

Photographer Terry Harris watched as the sun crept through amidst the swirling freezing fog.
Today’s forecast, after a very cold start, areas of freezing fog slow are expected to clear, possibly lingering all day in a few areas.

“Otherwise, many places eventually bright, but a low chance of a light wintry flurry from cloudier skies in the west,” says the Met Office. Maximum temperature 1 °C.
Temperatures will drop again tonight to –3 °C and tomorrow (Monday) will also be cold, with the risk of a “wintry shower along the coast”. Maximum temperature 2 °C.
Cambridgeshire County Council issued a warning today about looking out for those feeling the effects of the cold spell.
“Every year tens of thousands of people in the UK die from conditions linked to freezing temperatures. Please check in on older neighbours/relatives,” said a spokesperson.
“Are they stocked up on food/emergency supplies? Can they keep warm”
