Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue has taken a tongue in cheek approach to those queuing for an Oasis ticket – by suggesting they test their smoke alarms during the long wait!

Faced with crashing websites and millions trying to get through to buy a ticket for an Oasis concert, the bright sparks at Cambs fire are using the moment to highlight the need for smoke alarms.

In social media post today, the fire service lists ‘things you can do while waiting in the queue for Oasis tickets’.

  1. Test your smoke alarms
  2. Complete our online home fire safety check
  3. Apply to become an on-call firefighter (if you live within a 5 minute travel time of an on-call fire station)

It adds, by way of a PS ‘we hope you get your tickets!”.

One example, shared to their Facebook page from a couple of years ago, is of a fire in Bar Hill which started in the kitchen and quickly spread to the rest of the property.

A fire officer said that despite extensive damage to the house “the working smoke alarms in the property allowed the family to escape safely before the fire spread and thankfully no injuries were sustained.

“This shows how important it is to have smoke alarms fitted and to test them regularly.”
