Take group of family and friends, mix in a huge selection of homemade cakes, and stir in a giant auction, raffle, and tombola – and you have the recipe for the perfect charity event! Dozens of cups of tea were poured, countless bakes enjoyed, and many prizes won during an Afternoon Tea in Peterborough to support Breast Cancer Now.

Now in its fifth year, the chari-tea event was organised by keen baker and breast cancer survivor Cetti Long – and was her best one to date!

Held in the garden of her Stanground home, Cetti was again supported by generous family, friends, neighbours, work colleagues and local businesses – helping to raise even more ‘dough’ than last year for the charity.

With donations still coming in, this year’s total is expected to top £2,300 – and will be matched funded to the tune of £1,000 by a leading local employer.

This takes Cetti’s Afternoon Tea overall total to around £9,000!

She said: “When I started my Afternoon Tea on a small scale in 2020, I had no idea it would grow to be such a popular event. Friends and business contacts have been so incredibly supportive with everything from donating prizes and baking ingredients to being overwhelming generous on the day – something I never take for granted.”

Cetti, a communications, and engagement specialist for North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019 and received treatment at Peterborough City Hospital.

Earlier this year, she received a Civic Community Award from Peterborough City Council for her fundraising efforts in bringing her local community together.

She added: “Breast Cancer Now is a wonderful charity, and one which I turned to during many months of gruelling treatment and uncertainty.

“It continues to provide a source of ongoing support and advice to myself and many others in my friendship circle during their diagnosis, treatment and recovery journey.”

Georgie Gibbons, Afternoon Tea Manager at Breast Cancer Now, added: “I want to say a huge heartfelt thank you to Cetti for hosting her fifth Afternoon Tea for Breast Cancer Now.

“Cetti is a long-standing fundraiser and supporter of the Charity, and the Afternoon Tea team is grateful to Cetti and all her wonderful supporters for their incredible efforts which really do help to change lives.”
