A CambsNews photographer was nearly knocked over today in Peterborough by a man being chased by armed police. Our photographer had been in the city to prepare to cover the 2024 Pride March through the cathedral grounds.
He explained that he saw a small convoy of police vehicles with armed police and a dog unit among them.
Our photographer watched as the police appeared out of and slowly drove down Broadway eventually left at Midgate at which point he turned and went back on his route back to Stanley Park “when a man came running at me.
“He nearly knocked me down, but he was closely followed by two police officers who then chased him down Broadway.
And then the other police vehicles – at which point I turned, and three units of police came out of Northminster, drove back down Broadway and Tesco Extra disembarked pulled guns, and said, ‘stop armed police’.
“He was searched and arrested.
“I suppose I could have stuck my foot out as he ran past but with armed police around, it is definitely best not to get involved.”
