Burger entrepreneur Charlie Day posted a cryptic comment today announcing closure of his Wisbech pub/restaurant “for the foreseeable” after previously announcing it would only close for January.
“Charlies will be closed for the foreseeable!,” he posted to his pub Facebook page.
“Sorry to let people down but thank you for everyone’s support over the last 4 years. I couldn’t have done it without you all.”
On New Year’s Eve Charlie posted a photo of himself outside his pub, the Locomotive in Lynn Road, Wisbech, ahead of celebrating the end of 2024 and heralding in the New Year.
In the short time he’s run the pub/restaurant he’s had a huge impact, and Trip Advisor reviews put him well inside the top 10 restaurants in the Wisbech area.
“Really sorry to hear this,” one customer wrote. “If it’s permanent Wisbech has lost a gem. The best burgers for miles around and the staff are outstanding.”
Charlie moved out of a successful burger café in Little Church Street, Wisbech, in 2022 to take on running of the pub which he modernised extensively before re-opening it.
He once wrote: “As much as our burgers exceed the average standard of most burgers ‘it’s more than just a burger’ also stands for the struggle, hard work, belief, dedication, and resilience it has taken to build this business from absolutely nothing to one of the best food establishments in the area.”
Few would disagree.
