A Cambridge cycle thief was jailed for 16 weeks.
Jamie Smith was handed the sentence at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Friday (17 February) after pleading guilty to two counts of bike theft, theft of an e-scooter, two counts of theft from a shop and two counts of theft.
He also admitted three counts of fraud and handling stolen goods and one count of criminal damage between July 2022 and January 2023.
The 33-year-old, of no fixed address, was also handed a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order not to:
*Enter Cambridge Station Cycle Point in Station Road
*Be in possession of a bicycle without verifiable proof of ownership
*Touch any motor vehicle without permission from the owner
*Be in possession of any payment card without consent of the owner.
PC Laura O’Flynn, from the Cambridge city neighbourhood policing team, said: “Cycle theft continues to be a priority for neighbourhood officers in the city.
“We are working closely with partners across the city to educate cycle owners, improve infrastructure as well as identifying prolific criminals like Smith.
“We urge any victims to report thefts to us as soon as possible and to ensure their bikes are registered with Bike Register so they can be reunited if stolen and recovered.”
