Cambridgeshire coppers nick thieves suspected of nicking copper

Three raids by – all in or near a Cambridgeshire village – unearthed a building full of cannabis and a truck full of stolen copper cable.

Police from the Cambridgeshire rural crime action team conducted three warrants at Witchford near Ely on Sunday.

A police spokesperson said: “Officers from our Rural Crime Action discovered a vehicle with a large amount of suspected stolen copper cable.

“Two people were arrested and later released under investigation.”

The spokesperson added: “Whilst there, officers caught a whiff of something else that got their attention.

“Following their nose, they discovered a building full of cannabis plants.

“The plants and growing equipment were seized.”
