A man who broke into a home in Huntingdon, stealing items including a television, new iPhone and tins of tuna, has been jailed.
Andrew Burns, 39, was arrested after his fingerprints were found at the crime scene in Huntingdon in August 2023.
The victim had left her home secure after going away for the weekend but when she returned, she discovered a ladder propped up against the house and a bedroom window wide open.
She found her possessions strewn across the house and items missing.
Scenes of crime officers took fingerprints and discovered they were a match for Burns.
Burns, of Maryland Avenue, Hartford, Huntingdon, pleaded guilty to burglary and was sentenced to two years and three months in prison at Peterborough Crown Court on Wednesday (15 January).
Detective Sergeant Jonathan Lockwood, who investigated, said: “Coming home to find your home broken into is the stuff of nightmares.
“Thanks to the vital work of our forensics teams, we were able to place Burns at the scene and link him to the crime.
“Burglary can have a devastating impact on victims, which is why tackling it is one of our priorities and we are working hard every day to bring offenders before the courts.”
