Ram raiders who smashed their way into the Co-op store in Wisbech Road, Littleport, abandoned a stolen cash machine 12 miles away in the village of Haddenham. No money had been removed from the ATM.
The daring raid took place in the early hours of Saturday.
Police said they got the call about the ram raid at about 1.45am on Saturday.
“Officers attending the scene discovered substantial damage to the entrance of the store, where a telehandler had been driven into the shutters to gain entry,” said a police spokesperson.
“The cash machine had been removed from the building.”
The suspects fled the scene in a saloon type vehicle and a flatbed truck.
“The ATM and the flatbed were abandoned on Haddenham High Street,” said the spokesperson.
“No money had been removed from the ATM.
“No arrests have been made, and an investigation is ongoing.”
