A burglar who left his fingerprints on a window has been jailed. Liam Tonner, 38, of Essex Close, Cambridge, broke into a property in Verulam Way in the early hours of 21 July while the occupants were asleep.

They woke to find one of the downstairs windows wide open and a bag containing two laptops, and a charger had been stolen. A baby changing bag containing equipment for a child and a purse with foreign currency was also taken.

Scenes of crime officers recovered fingerprints from the window which matched Tonner’s, and he was arrested a couple of weeks later at his home where some of the currency was recovered along with cocaine.

At Huntingdon Crown Court on Thursday (19 September), Liam Tonner was sentenced to 167 weeks in prison after pleading guilty to burglary and possession of cocaine

He was also sentenced for six counts of shop thefts between 9 May and 28 July from Sainsbury’s in Clifton Way, TK Maxx, Pets at Home and Flannels. Tonner also pleaded guilty to a bike theft from Burleigh Street on 9 July and two counts of common assault.

PC Samantha Chapman, from the Southern Acquisitive Crime Team, said: “Tonner is a third strike burglar with a number of offences against his name.

“We sincerely hope with this lengthy sentence he will take up the support on offer to stop his offending.
