A car driver who initially stopped after hitting a cyclist in Ely, leaving him with serious injuries, soon fled, say police. Cambridgeshire police has issued an appeal for witnesses.

At about 6.30pm on Saturday, 24 August, the cyclist was involved in the crash with a grey car in Lynn Road, heading towards Cambridge Road.

“The driver of the car, a white man, initially stopped, but then left the scene without providing his details or reporting what happened,” said a police spokesperson.

“Paramedics attended the scene and the cyclist, a man in his 40s, was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. He remains in hospital.”

Anyone who witnessed what happened, or who has information, should call 101 and ask to speak to Det Sgt Shona Birkby from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit.
