Cambridgeshire police may be forced to apply for an extradition warrant if, as suspected, a convicted paedophile fled the country whilst awaiting trial.
Hilmi Kisacik aka Hilmiarzu Sahin was arrested and charged after being caught by an unofficial online child protection group, Fleetwood Enforcers UK.
The group, with 277,000 followers on a Facebook, confronted the 44-year-old man from Ely in April.
Kısacık thought he had been speaking with a 14-year-old girl on Facebook Messenger between 3 March and 21 April but the team from Fleetwood was using an adult decoy and then set up a meeting with Kisacik.
Kisacik sent inappropriate photos of himself and others, encouraged the decoy to touch herself inappropriately and asked her for photographs of herself.
The online child activist group arrived at Kisacik’s home in Ely on 26 April to confront him and alert police who arrested him.
Kisacik was released on court bail following a pre-trial hearing in July and an arrest warrant was issued for him in August when he failed to attend another hearing.
He also didn’t turn up to his trial.
On Friday (22 November), at Cambridge Crown Court, Kisacik, of Fore Hill, Ely, was jailed for 32 months in his absence.
He was found guilty of two counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and attempting to cause/incite a girl to engage in sexual activity.
A warrant is now out for his arrest.
PC Shane O’Brien said: “Although Kisacik didn’t speak to a real 14-year-old girl, the intent to incite a child to engage in sexually activity was still there.
“Protect children from paedophiles is a force priority and I would urge anyone who knows of this man’s whereabouts to contact police.”
On his now sparsely populated Facebook page, Kisacik reveals his home city is Gaziantep, the sixth most populous city in Turkey.
