Wisbech became the scene for a river rescue tonight after a cargo ship loaded with timber became stuck on the River Nene.
The Baltic Arrow grounded just before 9am today and it was well into the evening before it was freed.
The 80-metre-long boat had to wait until high water before it could be released from the river bank.
Wisbech Port officials will now carry out an investigation.
“This is a rare situation to happen at Wisbech,” said a port spokesperson.
It was reported that there were six crew members on board.
Traffic into and out of the port was delayed whilst the wait went on for the tide to turn to enable the vessel to be released.
