Audi’s famous slogan Vorsprung durch Technik, translated as advantage through technology, has probably lost its appeal for one driver who attempted to drive through a flooded Fenland road. No amount of technological wizardry could spare the hapless driver from falling foul of the Welney Washes on the Norfolk/Cambridgeshire borders.
The car has been seen bobbing in and out of the water for some days having been abandoned following an unsuccessful attempt to negotiate/navigate the flooded road.
Facebook group Welney Flood Watch reports river levels remaining at 2.78m today “much the same as yesterday at 2.78m currently no overnight fall below yesterday’s levels so the rainfall event of Tuesday plus the high winds have steadied levels”.
The group says to expect flood water on the centre of Welney Wash road to be around 17 inches and up to 22 inches on that deeper side.
A stranded Asda van has been removed but the
group reports that “the falling flood waters have uncovered the Audi that was stranded a while back and is now visible (almost) again”.
The advice, as always, is to find another route.
