JCB ram raiders target village Spar at Yaxley near Peterborough

It is the latest in a long series of ram raids in Cambridgeshire

A ram raider using a JCB wrecked the front of a village shop in the early hours to steal a cash machine.

Police were alerted in the early hours after the Spar post office and convenience store at The Maltings, Yaxley, near Peterborough, was attacked.

One resident posted to social media: “I left for work at 4.15 this morning and saw 3 police cars flying North on the A. I assumed something had kicked off somewhere.”

Police have yet to reveal details of the ram raid but the damage to the store is extensive.

Last October four suspects were sought by police after the Nationwide, Whittlesey, was forcibly entered using a JCB digger to steal money from the cash machine.

Only now is the Whittlesey branch of Nationwide being prepared and remains closed whilst the repair work is undertaken.

Until recently the building society had been able to operate a limited service whilst preparation work for a re-build was in progress.
