Murder victim yet to be formally identified

A man has been charged with murder following a death in Cambridge on Tuesday (17 September). Police were called by the ambulance service with reports of violence at a property in Histon Road, Cambridge, at 11.39am.

A 38-year-old man from Cambridge was discovered at the property in a serious condition and was treated by paramedics but was pronounced dead at 12.15pm.

The victim has not been formally identified. A post mortem is scheduled to take place today (19 September) at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.

Jonathon Austin, 23, of Histon Road, Cambridge, has been charged with murder and will appear at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court today.

Detective Inspector Lee Martin said: “We believe this is an isolated incident, but additional patrols have been put in place since Tuesday to reassure local residents.

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family – who are being supported by specially trained officers.”
