A wet, cold, year-old child was found wandering the streets at 7pm and returned to her parents after Cambridgeshire police knocked on doors to find them. Cambridgeshire police declined to say where the incident happened.
Police released the information today, simply saying that the child was found “walking across a road in Huntingdonshire with no parents nearby”.
The child was spotted, say police, by a “concerned member of the public” who stayed with the one-year-old until help arrived.
It happened just after 7pm on Tuesday and Cambridgeshire police said the child was “wet and cold from the rain and wearing no shoes”.
Officers arrived quickly and began knocking on doors making enquiries to locate the child’s parents “and after a short while found the child’s home.
“The child was safely returned, and some strong words of advice given on this occasion,” said a statement posted to the force Facebook page.
“A child protection referral has been completed which will ensure appropriate agencies are aware of the incident.
“Thank you to the caller for alerting us so we could ensure this child came to no harm.”
The post added: “If you have any concerns about a child, please contact us. You don’t have to be sure, but one call or report could change or even save a life.
“All reports can be made in confidence and can be done anonymously.”
