Christmas was ruined for the unlucky people living aboard this 40ft canal boat in March which came adrift and sank earlier this month. It is not known who lived on board, but the boat had been unofficially moored along the river off Creek Road for some time.

Middle Level Commissioners ‘police’ the local waterways and are aware of the boat.

“We are linking with the Environment Agency concerning the pollution caused by this newly sunken boat at Creek Fen on the Old Nene,” Middle Level says.

“We don’t have a pollution response role so have taken the most appropriate action we can.

“Please keep your distance when passing to reduce potential disturbance. ”

Middle Level adds: “We will add this boat to the sunken boat removal list that we already had planned for this area aiming to deliver in the New Year.”

One resident says illegally moored boats often cause pollution because of sewage discharge.

“We have complained many times, but they don’t seem interest,” said the resident.
