Firefighters claim bad parking stopped them attending a 999 call to a Whittlesey house blaze. A fire crew on their way to the house fire in Windmill Street, Whittlesey, on Sunday said they were unable to get there quickly because of cars parked badly.

“Inconsiderate parking can put lives at risk,” said a post on the Whittlesey Community fire service Facebook page.

“Earlier today (Sunday), we were responding to a house fire on Windmill Street. But poor parking meant we couldn’t get the fire engine down the street delaying our response,” they posted.

“The crew knocked on the neighbouring properties but with no luck.

“Fortunately, the fire was out on arrival, but if not, it could have been a very different scenario.”

The fire service statement added: “THINK before you park. Can emergency services get through?”
