A man was arrested in Wisbech for making threats to kill, attempted strangulation, indecent exposure, three assaults on emergency workers and escaping lawful custody. The arrest was made after the man had entered the Nationwide Building Society in Wisbech Market Place yesterday at around 10.30am.
Staff were so taken aback by the man’s actions that when he left they locked the doors and dialled 999.
Police were quickly on the scene and arrested the man.
On Policing Fenland Facebook page, a spokesperson for Cambridgeshire police explained that “following a call-out to Nationwide Building Society in Wisbech Market Place yesterday morning, a man has been arrested on suspicion of multiple offences.
“We received the 999 call at about 10.30am from staff at the bank reporting a man being very aggressive to staff and customers, resulting in them locking the doors to the bank once he had left”.

The spokesperson added: “This incident caused a bit of a stir in the centre yesterday, so we wanted to provide an update and also thank members of the public who were very helpful.”
