Sandringham became a focal point for the Royals today as the Prince and Princess of Wales came to Norfolk to greet well-wishers and speak to some of the vast numbers placing floral tributes.

William and Kate arrived in a Range Rover and stopped at the Norwich Gates where a sea of tributes have piled up.

Kate and William travelled to the 20,000-acre Royal Sandringham Estate in Norfolk this afternoon (Thurs) to view the sea of flowers, gifts and cards in front of the Norwich Gates. Thousands of mourners have been visiting the estate since the Queen’s death was announced last Thursday, with more than 70,000 people laying flowers last weekend alone. The royal couple read some of the messages and spent nearly an hour chatting to visitors, some of whom had travelled many miles to the late Queen’s country estate.

“The sea of flowers is unbelievable,” William told one woman.

Among those paying tributes was a 66-year-old visitor from Wales who thanked William for “sharing your grief with the nation”.

A primary teacher visiting with students told the Press Association that “the Queen’s death has touched a young generation as well”.

He added: “The older generation obviously knew the Queen for longer but young children that haven’t experienced the Queen for long on the throne still are greatly moved by her passing, and really want to do their best to celebrate her life and legacy and never forget her.”
