None but the brave seems to be the motto for drivers – cars, vans, tractors, and HGVs – determined to cross the Wash Road at Welney.
Despite warning signs clearly stating this part of the A1101 through Cambridgeshire is closed because of flooding, it has not deterred many from crossing.
“Some vehicles are travelling through the water although this won’t be so straightforward during the hours of darkness if the level creeps up any further,” says the ever-helpful Welney Flood Watch Facebook group.
Early today the group advised that river levels at Welney are lower at 2.43m which is 3cm down on this time yesterday.
“Water levels on the road- on the shallower side travelling towards Welney around 1 or 2 inches on that deeper side travelling towards Littleport 6 or 7 inches,” the group advised.
But the water crossing the road is fast flowing, and the Facebook group advise that, as always, if you are unsure then find another route.
