A man who stole two bikes in Huntingdon has been jailed. Benjamin Hendy, 41, of Cotton Court, Huntingdon, was captured on CCTV cutting the lock to a £550 bike on Princess Street on 5 September.
A few days later, on 20 September, he stole a bike worth £1,400 from a train at Huntingdon rail station.
At Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (5 September), Hendy, was sentenced to 30 weeks in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of shop theft and two counts of bike theft. He also activated a previous suspended sentence.
PC Louise Plumridge, who investigated, said: “For many people a bike can be a lifeline as their only method of transport and/or their tool for exercise.
“We recognise the impact these thefts can have on people’s lives, and we’re committed to catching those responsible and putting them before the courts.”
