Ironically on the day Peterborough Lido put early morning sessions back to 7.30am “due to the darker mornings”, the glorious sunshine broke through to offer an extraordinary moment of surprising October temperatures.
With the Met Office reporting expected maximum temperatures of 24 degrees C, it was hard not to check not simply the date, or day but the month.
‘Long spells of hazy sunshine, feeling very by afternoon,” turned out to be something of an understatement by the Met Office as those that were able headed to the Lido to enjoy an unexpected summer ‘hangover’
Tuesday is predicted to be similar although the Met Office advises, cautiously, of a “noticeable breeze” by the afternoon but the maximum temperature could be a degree hotter than today.
There might be some rain later in the week, heavy on Friday, but for now it’s an extended summer to enjoy it whilst it lasts.
The Lido, of course, is delighted describing it as “an autumn heatwave” as they hope the unseasonal temperature will encourage more to take a refreshing plunge.
